Jennifer Brookes: My good friend Amanda Walker is an artist whose work often falls into the performance art category. She’s the one in this video, and the dress she’s wearing was made out of bubble wrap and plastic packaging bags, full of air. The initial plan for the dress was aborted, so she instead decided to gauge the dress’s ability to help her float in water. Our first attempt was at Lake Steilacoom in Tacoma, WA, but after Amanda found an old wheelchair just below the water’s surface, we chose to look elsewhere for less questionable bodies of water. We settled on Puget Sound, where Amanda braved the ice cold ocean water in the rain. Though the air bags filled with water, she successfully floated on the sea in her plastic dress.
Eric Peterson: There is little else to say about this week’s piece other than the fact that it is a lullaby. |
