March 16th, 2010 - Twenty Six

Jennifer Brookes: There’s a small cluster of islands about 15 miles off the coast of northern Washington called the San Juan Islands. In light of my good friend Peter’s big move to Alaska, we decided, on a whim, to head up north and explore one of the many islands. After arriving on the ferry in Friday Harbor (of San Juan Island), we set out in search of lighthouses. The rocky coasts and sandy shores are reminiscent of Ireland’s landscape, and it certainly would be an understatement to call it beautiful. These pictures are less about the island and more about the development of a polaroid picture (of Peter Anderson, taken by Karen Wang), but it doesn’t hurt to know the context of a place. If you squint your eyes, you can see Canada in the distant waters floating above a bed of misty clouds.

Eric Peterson: We started this project on September 22nd, 2009, the first day of Fall. Now, we’re exactly halfway through, and Spring starts in just a few days. In Seattle, the blossoms are in full bloom, so it’s especially palpable. Denver’s more of a mixed bag because the weather here is so unpredictable, but this past weekend was the warmest and brightest all year. I suppose it also helps that the sun sets after 7:00pm, now. While last Fall started off with a melancholic solo piano piece, I wanted to start Spring off with something a little more hopeful. Here’s to another twenty-six weeks.

Thank you, Natalie. That is so flattering, coming from you. I should clarify, I got the polaroid idea from Eric himself. He’s pretty brilliant.

Very creative, you two. Liked it very much. I have no doubt you’ll come up with 26 more interesting pieces though it seems like a daunting task when you’ve already accomplished so much !!!
Great work !! Deb Brookes

my friend told me to check this website out and i must say that i am definitely intrigued by the photography. although the idea isnt incredibly original (check out the web for several other large scale projects like this) the romantic connection between the two of you underlying in much of the pieces(and your side note blurbs)really draws in the viewer, although there is something rather depressing about it all in the musical compositions. either way, you two work well as an interesting couple. look forward to watching more videos by you two
